Engineering After 12th / HSC ?
HSC or 12th Pass student has three options for Higher Studies:
1. Bachelor Degree e.g. B.Tech, B.Sc, B.Com, B.A, B.B.A, B.C.A, MBBS, BMS etc.
2. Diploma Courses like Diploma in Engineering, Management, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Taxation etc.
3. Vocational Courses / other certificate courses
First Option i.e. Bachelor Degree is most advised option. Now days every company / office demands Bachelor degree graduation for jobs.
Student wishing to become Engineer has following educational routes -
Route 1: Program: Bachelor in Technology (B.Tech) or Bachelor in Engineering (B.E)
Eligibility Criterion: HSC with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with Language English
Duration: 4 years (It may be 5 years or more in case of Architecture or Integrated Engineering Programs)
Specialization Branch:
Computer Science, Info Tech (IT), Software Engineering
Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication,
Mechanical, Automobile, Production, Aeronautics, Instrumentation
Civil, Construction, Architecture
Chemical, Petrochemical, Textile, Paint Technology, Rubber Technology
Bio-Tech, Agriculture, Horticulure
90% students after HSC and willing to do Engineering follow first route.
Since more students opt this route so competition is relatively high and tough.
This route is advised to those who have decided to be Engineer only.
Hereafter options to change to any other profession or field of study like Doctor, Management, Commerce or Business, Artists etc. get closed or minimized to zero.
One has to complete full program successfully to get awarded degree.
There is NO EXIT policy during program like Certificate after 1 year, Diploma after 2 years, Advanced Diploma after 3 years etc. Such options may exist with foreign university programs but are not currently NOT available in India. (exceptions excluded)
Route-2: Program: Diploma in Engineering
Eligibility Criterion: HSC with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with Language English
Duration: 3 Years / 2 years (HSC pass students may get admission directly in IInd year as Lateral Entry in many colleges / polytechnic boards / universities)

Computer Science, Info Tech (IT), Software Engineering
Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication,
Mechanical, Automobile, Production, Aeronautics, Instrumentation
Civil, Construction,
Chemical, Petrochemical, Textile, Paint Technology, Rubber Technology
Bio-Tech, Agriculture, Horticulure
10% students after HSC willing to do Engineering follow first route.
This route is advised to those who have decided to be Engineer only but have scored less HSC OR are not very confident or financially prepared OR feel that Diploma will be good enough for their business or job OR plan to study B.Tech after Diploma which shall take another 3 years.
Hereafter options to change to any other profession or field of study like Doctor, Management, Commerce or Business, Artists etc. get closed or minimized to zero.
Note: Always check the recognition of college / polytechnic / university before confirming your admission. In case of any doubt consult your teachers, related govt. departments, seniors or reputed consultants.
